Cucumbers vs. chips
If you snack at night like I do - try to make a conscious effort to at least substitute something healthy for the chips. I often opt for a few slices of cucumber. Filling and not fattening!

Do we really NEED to DO in order to get relief from chronic body pain, or is there an alternative?
Nearly every pain relief technique has been developed based on a philosophy that it can only be a good pain relief technique if it manipulates your body in some way, e.g. applies pressure, shakes, etc.
This seems to come from the "need to be busy / need to do / need external influence for success" syndrome that we (as a society) suffer from in all aspects of life.
Now understand me correctly, I haven't got anything against using these body manipulation techniques. For example, I actually love to have a massage, and strongly encourage you to do the same. However, realize that these techniques aren't going to cure your body pain. Do them just for the fun of it!
So, why don't body manipulation therapies cure your pain?
Well, here are some questions: Is DOING indeed the answer to curing your chronic body pain so you can enjoy your life? Have we all fallen into the trap of believing the idea that we need to DO something to FORCE "wellness" into our lives with techniques such as body manipulation (either with equipment or another person)?
Are we turning into human doings instead of human beings?
Our whole society seems to revolve around doing, doing, doing as the necessary tool to achievement - to the point where people become stressed and therefore in all likelihood increase their chronic body pain.
Less and less do we focus on what each of us truly is: a human being.
Nature is the best example. A tree sways in the wind. A plant grows out of a seed naturally. The wind blows this way, then that way. A bird flies effortlessly. Water flows. The earth turns, and moves around in the universe.
All these things occur naturally, without force. The same should count for us.
We should focus more on our "beingness", rather than searching for the "technique" that will fix us.
Having said that, it can be difficult to just BE when we live in a society that promotes DOING as a way for success. Sayings like "no pain, no gain" proclaim this too. We are led to believe if you do not work hard and struggle, you are not going to get anywhere! In my opinion, this is wrong.
So, how do we get pain relief by doing nothing (or just being)?
Meditation and relaxation are good examples, but techniques like these can be difficult when your body is in pain.
"First make yourself comfortable" is a near universal statement made at the beginning of any meditation or therapeutic process. After a few moments of shifting your body to get comfortable the "real" activity begins. In my experience "making myself comfortable" did not relieve my chronic pain; it actually made me more aware of my pain!
Thus, I became very interested to discover how to be comfortable and relaxed in my body. After years of exploration I found that the greatest comfort occurred when all parts of my body were simultaneously supported in a position where all joints were centered and all voluntary muscles were disengaged.
In this physically motionless place I began to quiet my mind. As I approached stillness I started to realize that true comfort comes from the spirit within, or said in another way: true comfort comes from just being.
This discovery led me to the invention of a chronic pain relief solution that does not DO anything to your body - it just merely puts you in a position where you can comfortably BE. And that is where the magic begins.

Obesity has become one of the most prevalent medical conditions affecting the US population. The American Obesity Association reports that over 60% of the adult population can be classified as obese. Besides the risks for medical conditions such as high blood pressure, colon cancer and coronary heart disease, back pain is another area that has greatly impacted those who suffer from obesity. The medical conditions that result in back pain that are the most common risks are degenerative disc disease, disc rupture or herniation, and spondylolisthesis or slippage of the lower back. Other risks for obese back pain sufferers are spinal stenosis, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
The spine carries the body's weight and disperses the weight that we encounter during our daily activities and rest periods. When we carry excess weight due to obesity, the spine absorbs the additional burden. This can lead to damage or structurally compromise the ability of the spine to do its job. Our lower back is the most sensitive to the effects of an overweight condition. The muscles in the lumbar spine region that support the back, thighs and pelvis can become weak and inflexible due to inadequate amounts of exercise and lessened mobility that frequently occur with obesity. With weakened muscles, the possibility of curvature of the spine increases dramatically in the lower back region. The result is poor posture and additional pain, as well as further affecting whatever medical condition the person is experiencing.
A sedentary lifestyle combined with an unbalanced diet can diminish the strength or density of our bones, leading to osteoporosis. The risk of fractures occurs when the actual design of the spinal column has been endangered by the weakened density of the bone structure. Fractures of the vertebrae are not a pleasant experience causing excruciating pain.
Osteoarthritis can be a result of excessive body weight causing a disproportionate amount of pressure and stress on the facet joints in the spine. Unhealthy posture may result in neck and back pain. The spine requires good posture and appropriate physical activity to provide the needed support to keep the spine healthy.
When you are obese, exercising is very difficult. It takes time to get to a level of activity that allows you breath well and not tire as quickly. If you are already experiencing back pain or other pains, exercising is even more difficult because of the very fact that you are exercising.. As much as the pain is too much to bear while beginning to exercise, the long term result of not exercising will be more pain that will only become more intense. Start slowly with gentle exercises that stimulate healing by allowing nutrients to flow to the spine. Every little bit of activity that the muscles and joints experience will condition them and strengthen them, so that it becomes easier and less painful over time.
When you add a healthy diet to your exercise program, you are providing additional assistance to your body to help it heal itself. Appropriate vitamins and nutrients are essential to better health. Balance is important, so consult with your doctor or other health care provider to ensure that you get the best results.
Obesity and pain feed off of each other. Once the pain starts, activity decreases so as to not aggravate the pain. The lessened activity results in a more sedentary lifestyle which promotes weight increase. As weight increases, more medical problems occur, bringing with it more pain. Experiencing more pain encourages less activity... It spirals out of control and simply does not stop - unless you take action by exercising and eating healthy.

Chiropractic medicine is believed to have been around since 1895. Chiropractors believe that joint mobility and anatomical alignment of the spine can exert inconceivable effects on your nervous system. Since the spinal column is so much a part of the nervous system, chiropractors think that manual adjustments can promote and improve the overall health of a person. Such treatment can reduce whatever is exerting pressure on the spinal cord, the chief neurological tissue.
When misalignment or fracture is found on any of the vertebrae, this is normally attributed to either an accident, a fall or even body tension. Whatever the cause may be, when your spinal nerve root is irritated, you will experience the reflexes of pinched nerves, usually resulting in severe back pain. That's one reason for you to visit a chiropractor.
When examining a patient most chiropractors use the same approach as that of medical doctors. First is the consultation. Next is the discussion of your case history. Then this should lead to a physical examination. Further tests may then be needed such as laboratory analysis and x-ray studies.
Chiropractic care engages a drug-free and non-surgical methodology in treating the patients. It involves manually manipulating your body joints and adjusting your spinal column to bring a sense of balance back to your body. Thus restoring your health. This process is even believed to have disease prevention effects. When all is done, your joints should be able to have normal motion back again. Not only that, your body will have diminished nerve interferences, resulting in removal of stressful attacks, rejuvenating your whole body back into its healthful state.
The following will give a brief idea of how spinal joint mobility can actually be restored by chiropractic practice. Through using a highly trained manual sequence called chiropractic spinal manipulation, pressure is applied or forced to the joints that have been limited by muscle strain, inflammation and/or pain. This form of manipulation will relieve tightness and pain of muscles, and also promote general health. It also is found to be especially helpful in reducing back pain and in treating sciatica with disc protrusions.
As stated above, these types of manual adjustments can be very helpful in treating sciatica. They can help ease the irritations in the root nerves that are causing all the sharp pains, inflammation and muscle spasms usually associated with sciatica. Alignment adjustments and mobility manipulations are both safe and should be pain free. If there are discomforts during or after treatments, make sure to let your chiropractor know immediately.
These are sounds of gases being released from your joints, incredible as this may sound. But they are actually the release of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide which have built up in your joints, causing them pressure. You should begin to feel wonderfully good after the chiropractor is done with this. There should be no discomfort unless your muscles are in spasm or you get overly tensed about the whole procedure. It's quite important that you are able to relax in an adjustment session. Tensing up your body works against you and defeats what the chiropractor is trying to do for you.
Chiropractic care can be an incredible aid for maintaining a healthier pregnancy. From controlling nausea all the way to having a full term delivery. It could even help in shortening the time of labor and delivery! Most of the professionals have been trained to work with pregnant patients and so it is very safe for both the mother and the baby.
When modern medicine cannot offer any genuine relief for those with chronic back pain, it's time for you to definitely check out chiropractic care. Instead of taking more pain-killers, and facing the possibility of surgery, you have a truly viable alternative here.
Many people who began visiting a chiropractor found out it made them feel much better than they had in years. When you keep your body in alignment, it returns back the favor by keeping you in better overall health. Taking constant medications does no good to your health in the long run. And nobody likes going for surgery either. So it should only be the last resort, after you've exhausted all other means.
Chiropractic care is now a century old practice and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down. Real world results are confirming that these manual adjustments are bringing surprisingly good health benefits to patients. There are other issues of health where positive results are even surfacing because of this treatment. In areas such as allergies, headaches, adult and child ADHD, they can be either relieved or diminished by going to the chiropractor. As time progresses, it looks promising that many more areas of common health issues will likely be uncovered, which could responsively benefit from the chiropractic care approach.

Think about it, how many various remedies have you tried when it comes to exercise programs and medications to relieve back pain. Citizens within the western world, tend to put too much reliance upon anti-inflammatory types of medication, which may or may not help in relieving back pain. The same people might also take various painkillers to hide the discomfort they are feeling. However, there are some alternatives and that is exercise.
Of all the exercises available, one of the most popular choices of gentle exercises is yoga. In the beginning, yoga was a Hindu spiritual practice. It is designed as a series of healing exercises that work to promote the health of both the mind and the body. Hindus often used a beginner form of yoga known as viniyoga. This form of yoga is extremely easy to learn and use, and helps heal in a therapeutic method.
The combination of breathing and movement techniques make viniyoga the perfect exercise for those looking to treat pain within the back and neck. This form of exercise also works to improve muscle strength and posture, as well as promoting overall alignment. If you are a beginner in the world of yoga, you should first speak with an instructor that is certified in the areas of yoga, to help you implement a program that will work specifically for you.
Reducing the amount of tension, thus helping manage pain within the back, is the belief that yoga is based upon. Not every instance of back pain is related to stress, in fact, many spasms within the muscles and injuries cause back pain as well. However, those practicing yoga, hold the belief that by using these techniques and dealing with the back pain through exercises, you can help decrease the amount of time needed for recovery.
Many people suffer from intense pain caused by some sort of injury. This is particularly true if the injury is related to the discs. Treatment and movement both become difficult with this type of back pain; therefore, doctors generally recommend bed rest and medicines to deal with the problem. However, through various research it has been proven that putting a patient on bed rest, may aggravate back issues instead of helping it, due to the inability to stretch as needed. Essentially, when you stretch the spine, as in with yoga, you are creating additional space, releasing pressure caused by an injury.
By combining exercising with breathing techniques, such as with viniyoga, you are improving your back, without placing any further strength on it. Yoga also focuses on the mind, allowing the pain sufferer to benefit from awareness, further giving them control over the pain. Yoga also works to improve posture and create a comfort zone while in the proper posture, eliminating and lessening pain within the back.
When practicing yoga, each pose is experienced between 5 to 60 seconds. There are various levels of difficulty, but the student should always be physically comfortable, while performing the exercise. This comfort level, will determine how long you should be holding the yoga poses. Furthermore, you should find a soft spot, to practice yoga. A mat that is supportive and soft should be used. As you exercise, you are stretching some muscles and loosening others. The yoga experienced is completely involved in the stretching aspect. Tension is often release and blood flow is increased, which means your muscles are getting added nourishment, ultimately creating and training a healthy body.
If you are a beginner, you should be performing only beginner's exercises. Several great exercises are perfect for those suffering from lower back pain. With one exercise, you lay on the floor, face down. Then, with palms down, stretch the arms straight up. Moving something like a snake and starting with the nose, breathe in and begin to arch the back. Keep arching as far as you can. At your stopping point, take a breath deeply, then hold that position for at least 60 seconds, longer if possible. Do not hold your breath; it is important to remember this.
At some point in their lifetime, almost 80% of American citizens will experience some form of back pain. You should open your mind and consider a gentle exercise, such as yoga, which is non-evasive, as a method to relieve pain; it is certainly worth a shot.

Treatment for chronic back pain relief (and other chronic pain relief) is easier, more effective and much more comfortable than you may think.
One of the biggest problems with the traditional body manipulation pain relief techniques is that the treatment is done to you, i.e. somebody else manipulates your body to give you relief. Examples of this are massage, chiropracting, and physiotherapy.
One of the biggest lessons for me was in realizing that body manipulation therapies do not permanently relieve pain. In fact, it is likely that the more often you go to a body manipulation therapist, the more frequently you will need to return.
Why?
Well, when your body is treated by somebody else, the results are temporary because you don't learn how to put yourself into that state. The focus is on getting somebody else to "fix" you... so there is no responsibility taken for bringing awareness to your own unconscious patterns or for creating your own healing.
I began to realise this fact after years of trying many innovative and established pain relief techniques to relieve my chronic, back, neck and shoulder pain. I discovered that the more dynamic the pain relief technique the more the pain continued.
In fact, after years of using "common" pain relief techniques and getting no permanent relief, I began to become less and less active, eventually hoping to find pain relief just lying around. Although my chronic back, neck and shoulder pain decreased with inactivity, I could still feel areas of immobility, pain, and a lack of energy.
This led me on my search for simple and permanent pain relief that I could do myself.
After years of research and exploration into self-healing, I began to understand that true comfort and freedom from pain comes from the spirit within. It is only through acknowledging our pain can we truly heal and live a joyous pain-free life.
But the question remained, how do we go within when there is so much outer all-consuming chronic body pain?
Through trial and error, I found the greatest relief of chronic pain occurred when all parts of my body were simultaneously supported. This meant that all of my body was held in a precise, relaxed position where all joints were centered and all voluntary muscles were disengaged.
So I asked myself, "Where do I remember being the most relaxed and pain-free?" The answer that came to me was: "when I was entirely submerged in water". It was basically when I felt weightless!
Then I had a moment of revelation. I realized that my body became completely relaxed when underwater because all my joints were centered and all my muscles and fascial sheaths were allowed to rest in their natural length. This allowed my body energy to flow unimpeded (a position we don't often experience with the tension and stresses of day-to-day life).
Since I did not relish the lack of oxygen under water or the shriveling of my skin after a period of time in water, I decided to recreate this "weightless" body position on land.
So, after a period of combining cushions to support my body in this "weightless" position, I eventually developed a solution that provides permanent relief from chronic pain without the need to do anything! The result is actually so profound, that after a few months of use, I no longer needed to use it because I no longer had pain.
And the final result? I achieved my goal of finding a way to easily self-heal; where there is no more need to rely on somebody else for your own well-being!
