Your diet plays a major role in activating or suppressing the inflammation responsible for autoimmune diseases like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), and Fibromyalgia. I can't stress this enough. For that and other reasons that will be discussed shortly, I would like you to start thinking in terms of: “Is what I'm swallowing making me healthier or sicker?” There is little if any neutral ground. Just about anything you put into your mouth will have a negative or positive consequence on your autoimmune condition. It is as if everything that you swallow is sending a signal to your immune system to either cause more inflammation or less.
Corn is a food that sends a signal to the immune system to produce more inflammation in the body. Studies have shown that corn can irritate patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and the National Fibromyalgia Association (NFA) suggests corn should be avoided because it can aggravate Fibromyalgia.
Besides promoting inflammation, corn has been called the leading cause of chronic food addiction in this century. To give you an idea of how powerful the addiction can be, all cigarettes made in the U.S. since World War I have contained added sugars, usually from corn. Do you think the cigarette companies chose corn syrup for the great taste it adds to their products?
Corn syrup (fructose) is cheap and twice as sweet as cane sugar. In 1994, the average person ate 83 pounds of fructose. Corn syrup causes an increase in blood lactic acid, especially in people with diabetes. Fructose from corn syrup inhibits copper metabolism and decreases mineral availability, two substantial factors in autoimmunity. Fructose also breaks down into a substance that weakens your body’s natural anti-inflammatory molecules. The body does not metabolize fructose the same as other sugars. Fructose converts to fat more than any other sugar. Corn fructose certainly isn’t the diabetic-friendly and harmless sugar substitute that it is advertised to be.
Those with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia should avoid all sources of corn for a one-month period to see if their condition improves.

High cholesterol simply means a higher risk of a number of heart diseases and other related problems. Something most of us want to avoid. So, to do this we need to keep our cholesterol levels under the desired limits. Making this choice means that we need to do certain things which would serve this purpose. These would include, exercise, a healthy diet, avoiding fatty foods and so on.
How you should best control your cholesterol levels would be decided by factors like, how high it is and why it is so high in the first place. By answering these questions, you will at least be aware of the risk of having high cholesterol. You may already know that you have high cholesterol but you would definitely want to learn more about it. Either way, it is imperative that you get a grip on your cholesterol and get informed about controlling it.
As you know, cholesterol plays a significant and decisive role in all heart disease. It is already known that the primary cause of heart attack and strokes are clogged arteries. These arteries are clogged up with cholesterol and a clot of this traveling to either the heart or the brain, is what blocks the arteries. This must tell you that it is important to control high cholesterol before it gets to be high and life threatening. If you didn’t already know this….you’re now armed with important information.
Now, if you have high cholesterol, chances are you want to lower it. If your cholesterol isn’t high then you need to know how to avoid getting it in the first place. The first step to control high cholesterol is establishing healthy eating habits, healthy exercise habits and healthy drinking and smoking habits. When I say healthy habits, it has a specific meaning to it.
By healthy smoking habits I do not mean smoking cigarettes and cigars that are healthy. There’s no such thing. The only healthy smoking habit is to quit. Tobacco smokers have only one advantage over nonsmokers, if they quit they raise their HDL cholesterol levels very quickly, and that is a good thing. HDL cholesterol is also know as the good cholesterol. Healthy drinking habits may sound a little less crazy than smoking. Indications today state that one glass of red wine a day can actually help raise HDL cholesterol.
Healthy exercise habits mean regular aerobic exercise at least several times a week. This can simply be walking for 30 minutes, tennis, running, cycling and volleyball. It could be any physical activity that one enjoys doing and that which gives a good cardiovascular workout. In other words it gets your heart pumping. Healthy eating habits are the best way to control high cholesterol. If you can control your diet and eat healthy, it will give you higher HDL and, more importantly, much lower LDL. LDL is the problem or bad cholesterol. Eating healthier means placing more emphasis on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and less on animal products that are high in saturated fats. Also, you need to reduce or ideally cut out completely any processed foods. These changes can mean the difference between having a well maintained body and strong heart, compared to one that may be close to giving up.
So, you can see that changes are necessary. Now you need to decide where you’re going to start. Although, ideally you need to make all of these changes, its better to get started with some of it. Trying to tackle everything in one go is often too much for most of us. Start with some small changes and build on them.

Doctors need to be cautious when patients are describing their symptoms, as often-used terms such as "dizziness", "vertigo", and "motion sickness" can be caused by conditions other than balance problems. Instead, doctors try to encourage patients to describe their sensations in more specific terms. Below are common symptoms described by patients, and what a primary care physician would consider the sensations to be of those symptoms.
Dizziness
In order to satisfy the symptom of "dizziness", physicians would be interested in sensations that are similar to feeling drunk, including being unsteady, woozy, or giddy. There may not be sensations of spinning, but a feeling of imbalance. Dizziness is typically not caused by inner ear disorders, so may point to a different condition which needs to be investigated.
Vertigo
The sensations associated with vertigo are those such as spinning, turning, falling, whirling, even simply moving straight ahead. The spinning sensations may refer to either the subject spinning or the actual environment. All such sensations of movement are hallucinations and usually suggest an inner ear or vestibular system disorder.
Lightheadness
A physician would consider "lightheadness" to involve one or more symptoms such as tunnel vision, feelings of fainting, sweating, shortness of breath, numbness, or feeling cold. Lightheadness can be caused by the side effects of medication, or heart or blood vessel problems.
Motion Sickness
Common motion sickness symptoms include headache, sweating, nausea, and spinning. Rather than being a symptom of a condition or disease, motion sickness is quite a normal response to experiencing motion for which you have not yet adapted. Some people's threshold for suffering motion sickness is much lower than others, and can be caused by relatively stable journeys by road, air, or sea.
Summary
If you are feeling any of the sensations described above, visit your doctor. There is also a new website - see below - designed for sufferers of these conditions to share symptoms and coping strategies, and there is a recommended resource which has helped many people overcome dizziness and similar unpleasant disorders.

A person's chances of developing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can depend on a number of factors, some of which are beyond their control. When these are combined with other potential causes such as being overweight, drinking or smoking it can greatly increase the risk.
One of the factors that is somewhat beyond our control is age. Sleep apnea is more common is people over the age of 30, with the highest percentages in males over 40 years old.
It is more commonly found among men than women. It is thought that between 12 and 20 million Americans are affected by sleep apnea, ranging from mild to severe. Breaking that down by gender, roughly 24% of American men suffer from sleep apnea compared to only 9% of women.
Post-menopausal women are more likely to be affected by it and the percentages between men and women become much closer after women have gone through menopause.
There have been many studies done to examine the difference between male and female sufferers.
Genetics does play a part in sleep apnea but it is not really known how large a part. If you have a family history of sleep apnea - in either men or women - it is more likely that you will develop the disorder at some point in your life.
Race is another factor that appears to play a role. African Americans as well as Hispanics and Pacific Islanders are more likely to be afflicted than Caucasians. They are still affected by it but in lower percentages.
Any type of medical condition that affects your breathing can ultimately contribute to sleep apnea. Health conditions such as Marfan's syndrome or Down syndrome that can lead to abnormalities in the face and head - known as craniofacial problems - lead to a much greater chance of sleep apnea.

Like all medications of modern science, the asthma drug list continues to grow as advances are made.. unfortunately, the side effects of many of these lifesaving medications are also issues we need to deal with. Whenever you feel depressed because of your asthmatic problem, rejoice in the joy that you were born in this time in human history when mankind has advanced in many areas, especially medically.
If you travel in time to, say, a hundred years back, you will see how terrible asthmatic victims suffered. At that time in human history, medicine hadn't advanced as it is today. There were hardly any helpful asthma drugs to use for preventing or treating the condition. Still, it was also theorized that asthma wasn't as prevalent in the old days simply because we allowed children to come into contact with many pathegens that gave them immunity to certain conditions.
Many people who had the condition at this point in history were left with no choice but to suffer the attacks whenever it occurred. But today there are many asthma drugs that can help to prevent attacks and even to treat a serious asthmatic case - thereby prevent death. The asthma drugs are grouped under two categories- the quick relief medicines (also known as relievers) and the long-term medicines (also known as preventers).
Some of these reliever and preventer asthma drugs include:
- Inhaled corticosteroid (also known as 'steroids' for short) - These types of asthma drugs help you by reducing the swelling of your airways. With this reduction, there is less likelihood an asthmatic attack.
- Bronchodilators- These types of asthma drugs are not anti-inflammatory but are used by asthma victims to control the condition and prevent certain symptoms.
- Leukotriene modifiers- These types of asthma drugs can help you to treat mild cases of asthma.
- Theophylline- is a type of asthma drug that you can use to treat mild cases of asthma and also moderate cases.
To get the best use of these asthmatic drugs, make sure you take them with a doctor's guide. Most importantly, make sure you take the right dose. You don't want to make your condition worse by taking the wrong doses.
Note that these medicines are mostly taken as inhalers. There is a reason for this. It is so that you can breathe them in through your nose for it to be delivered where it is required most - in your lungs. It is also so that it can start working much faster.
. Shortness of breath that gradually builds up and leads to difficulty in speaking,
. Gasping for breath while talking,
. Tightening of the victim's chest,
. Loud wheezing (raspy or whistling sound when breathing) and a more intensified coughing,
. Flared nostrils of victims and tightening of the neck muscles.
. Bluish lips of the victims and fingernails.
At this display of these last symptoms of asthma, it is a serious indication of danger. Blue lips and fingernails are an indication that the person isn't getting enough oxygen to deliver into the bloodstream. Whenever you experience any 3 or more of the above symptoms of asthma, then you should know the situation could be dangerous to the victim.
Be vigilant however as many of these same symptoms can be caused by simple allergies. Once again however, it's important to recognize the symptoms and the severity to determine the right course of action. If in doubt, immediately seek medical attention for the person in distress.
Some people are very lucky to notice the early symptoms of asthma before it becomes critical; while some don't even see it coming until it suddenly hits them... and brings them to their knees. Be on the look out for the above symptoms of asthma... so that you can stay protected all the time and be able to quickly take the necessary medication when it occurs.
